SOG Topo Meridian Folding Knife Review

SOG's innovative and practical folding knives are turning a lot of heads in the knife industry. I was lucky enough to pick up one of their unique Topo Meridian folding knives recently and here are my honest opinions:

What I like about the knife:

1. The first thing that jumps out to me on the Meridian is the handle. Crafted from sandpaper-like G-10 along with steel liners and anodized aircraft aluminum layers, this handle not only looks super cool but is built like a tank. The ergonomics of the Topo Meridian's handle are wonderful. The knife is extremely comfortable in your hand and the shape allows for many grip options.

2. One handed-opening is no problem with the Topo Meridian. SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.) helps you to flip the blade out of the handle very quickly.

3. At 3.25 inches long, the scimitar-like blade comes razor sharp right out of the box. The AUS 8-A blade will keep its edge even after extensive use.

Jimping or thumb grooves on the back of the blade allow for making precise or quick cuts when seconds count.

4. When the blade is in the open position, there is no up and down or side to side movement. This is very important because your fingers depend on your knife's lock. SOG's liner lock is about as strong as they come.

5. The finger guard on the bottom of the blade gives you added protection from accidentally slipping your fingers unto the blade.

What I didn't like:

With such a cool handle design, I wish that SOG would offer this knife with a tanto,clip, or even drop point style. Other than that, I have no major complaints. You gotta love this knife!

Overall:

With a suggested retail value of $100, the SOG Topo Meridian folding knife is worth every penny. I appreciate how well the design and functionality of the knife were able to come together.

My Favorite Toaster! Read My Review of the Hamilton Beach Toaster 24559

If you are in the market for a new toaster, go no further until you read my review of the Hamilton Beach 24559 Toaster. I bought this toaster three years ago after some very frustrating experiences with different toasters that didn't toast evenly or consistently. It has been a very reliable toaster and has held up great over these years. It gets a lot of use with my family of six.

My favorite things about this toaster:

oEvenly toasts entire piece of bread/bagel

oWide slots hold large bagels and big slices of bread - I like to make homemade bread and the large slices fit

oAll the features (defrost, reheat, bagel) work very well - my favorite is the bagel feature

oDurable (my one year old has roughed it up a bit and it still works great)

oStylish - the chrome with black trim is very appealing on my counter top

oEasy to adjust the settings to just get the toast just the way I like it

Drawbacks:

oSize - the four slice version is a little bulky so if you're tight on space you may want to consider the two slice version of this same toaster

oFood removal - I would recommend buying some bamboo tongs because it can be hard to get the English muffin or bagel out of the slots.

I have been using this 4 slice Hamilton Beach Toaster for over three years. I think it is a great toaster and very reasonably priced. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new toaster.

I did some research on the product and this oven just blows away the competition. The reviews on major retailer sites such as Amazon and more are just outstanding, receiving 4, if not 4 1/2 stars. These are some of the best ratings in terms of toaster ovens that I have seen.

The price - For what features that you get, you're going to find that this price tag is great. You can get all these features compared to other ones and its only going to set you back around $150. If you look at other models, you may be paying $200+ for the same exact features. The downfall is that the reviews aren't nearly as good.

The size - Since a toaster is designed to cook some items other than toast, you're going to want to fit bigger items in it. The size is a big issue with many brands. This one should get the job done quite nicely. As for the actual size of the oven, it's going to save you a lot of counter space, which is nice.

Features - With some toaster ovens, you're going to find that there are no alarms. Like your actual oven, many will ding or set something off when you reach a temperature. This way, you're going to know when you can put the food in. Surprisingly, there are a lot of ovens that don't have this feature. The other thing that I like about it is that it gives you a digital temperature reading, which is great.

Non stick walls - The last feature that takes the cake is the non stick walls. You know that there are going to be times when something explodes. When it does, you're going to want to have easy clean up. With these type of walls, you're going to find that its going to be easy clean up.

By far, I give this toaster oven a 5 star out of 5 star. Be sure to compare a few others before pulling the trigger. There are some great ones out there but I would say that this one in particular is one of the best.
